Everything you need to know about the rules, score and geographic data.
🎮 Game rules
A country is rejected if one of these two conditions is not met:
1. It doesn't match both criteria at once. Each cell is at the intersection of a row and a column — your country must satisfy both criteria simultaneously, not just one.
2. It has already been used. The same country can only appear once in the grid. Already placed countries appear greyed out with "Already placed" in the list.
The ⭐ Perfect game badge is awarded if you fill all 9 cells meeting these three conditions:
— 0 mistakes: every country you submitted was correct
— 0 hints: neither 💡 nor 💡💡 were used
— Daily puzzle only: training or archive games do not count
It appears in the end-of-game window and in the share image.
The grid changes every day at midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
If the page has been left open overnight, it reloads automatically as soon as the new grid is available.
This number shows the number of valid countries for that cell — the number of countries that simultaneously satisfy both the row and column criteria.
This counter disappears once the cell is filled. In reveal mode (after the game), click on a cell to see the complete list of valid countries with their rarity score.
Yes, the FR and EN versions are two separate game experiences, each has its own grids.
However, the streak is shared across both FR and EN modes: playing either daily grid is enough to keep it going. If you play both on the same day, the streak only goes up by one.
In Inverted Mode, it's the opposite of the regular game: all 9 countries are already placed in the grid, and your job is to guess the 6 hidden criteria.
To suggest a criterion, click one of the "?" headers in the grid. A dropdown appears: select the criterion you think matches all the countries in that row or column.
You have a maximum of 10 errors. An incorrect attempt (a criterion that doesn't match all the countries) counts as one error.
Two hints are available:
— 💡 Hint 1: reveals the category of the criterion (e.g. "Geogrpahy" or "Area")
— 💡💡 Hint 2: directly reveals the full criterion and validates it automatically
🏆 Score & XP
Each country you place earns points based on its rarity.
Your score is then adjusted by a precision bonus: playing without mistakes and without using hints boosts your final result. The more you guess, the lower the bonus.
Rarity scores update every week based on the community's actual choices : a country played very often will lose value over time, and vice versa.
XP lets you progress through 7 ranks to unlock. Every game earns XP, regardless of the outcome.
Two bonuses are added on top of the base gain:
— Precision bonus: the fewer mistakes you make and hints you use, the higher the bonus. A perfect game earns the maximum.
— Streak bonus: completing daily puzzles day after day gradually increases your XP gain. The streak resets if you forget to do the grid or abandon.
🔥 Streak & Shields
The streak rewards your consistency: it increases by 1 each day you complete at least one daily grid, whether it's the French or English version.
Your streak is shown below the grid during the game and on your profile page.
Shields are a safety net for your streak. You automatically earn one every 15 streak days reached, up to a maximum of 5 in reserve.
A shield is used automatically in two situations:
— You forget to play one day or go to holidays: the shield covers the missed period and your streak continues as if you had played.
— You forfeit a grid and can't recover on the other version the next day: the shield saves your streak.
Your available shields are shown on your profile page (🛡️).
🌍 Geographic data
For countries spanning multiple continents or hemispheres, Géogrille applies a simple consistent rule: the capital's location is what matters, not the country's geographic extent.
Géogrille includes 197 countries, split into three categories:
— The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN)
— The 2 UN observer states: the Holy See (Vatican) and Palestine
— The 2 non-member non-observer states recognised by the UN: the Cook Islands and Niue
💾 Progress & personal data
Choosing a username gives you two benefits:
— Appear on the leaderboard: your total XP, best daily score and monthly score will be visible on the leaderboard under your name.
— Cross-device sync: your games are saved on our servers. If you change device or browser, go to your profile page and click "Recover my account" to restore everything with your username and password.
— Friends list: add and see how your friends perform in your profile.
Players without a username remain anonymous: their games are stored locally, but do not appear on the leaderboard and cannot be recovered on another device.
